Introducing our blog and son Luke

I have been looking for a way to keep family and friends updated throughout the year and finally found a way to do it by posting on the internet. I hope you will find this site fun and informative as you keep up with the Rodriguez family.

Recently we added to our family. Our son Luke Adam was born on March 6th at 3:39 p.m. He was 8 pounds 6 ounces and 21 3/4 inches long. I was able to do a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After cesarean) this time and the recovery was much better. I was induced which my Doctor wanted to shy away from because of my prior c-section but my body was ready and Luke was becoming lethargic. I went in on the 6th at 7 a.m. and started to process of being induced. I was started on pitocin but first the nurse had to blow the vein in my arm, which is weird because I have great veins. At 9:30 I got my epidural, my doctor wanted me to be comfortable and I obliged. At that point I was still 3 cm. A resident came in to break my water and I was told he couldn't because Luke was still floating which was news to me because for weeks he was supper low in my pelvis. About an hour later at noon a different resident came in and broke my water and at this point I was 4cm. They immediately wanted to put an internal pressure catheter in and a scalpel monitor on Luke which I refused because Luke was doing fine. At 1 pm the nurse came in and told me I needed the monitor on Luke especially since I was a VBAC, I was so mad that she played that card and it took her 5 tries (which entails scraping Luke's head) to place the monitor correctly. I was left alone and at about 3:10 I started feeling tons of pressure, I was checked and was 8cm. The nurse left and about 5 minutes later the pressure was even worse, and I was checked and was 10cm. My doctor arrived and I started pushing at 3:25 and at 3:39 Luke Adam was born! He has been a wonderful addition to our family and Noah and Caleb have taken to him very well. No jealousy, but they could use a course or two in patience. It has been fairly "easy" going from 2 to 3 children.

I will try to update this site once a week and I hope you all will come and check frequently!
